Original U.S. Civil War Private Purchase Black Leather Flap Holster for Full Size Percussion Revolvers - Circa 1860

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an exceptional example of a U.S. Civil War-era private purchase black leather flap holster. The holster was specifically designed to fit the larger percussion revolvers that were used during the Civil War era, such as the Colt Army and Navy revolvers and the Remington Army, among others. It is made from top-grade leather, with all of its original stitching still mostly intact and tight. The holster was designed to be worn "Butt Forward" on the right hip, for use with the left hand, while the right hand was reserved for the Officer's Sword. The design is almost identical to the official U.S. Army issue, but without the "U S" stamp on the front.

The flap of the holster has a securing strap that hooks onto the brass stud on the front of the holster, providing additional security for the gun though it is unfortunately torn. We tested an 1860 Army and an 1851 Navy, and they both fit perfectly into the holster. This is a true Civil War military-style holster from the 1860s, which is incredibly rare to find in such good, heavily used condition. This holster still retains its shape well, without the usual crushing seen on these holsters, making it a valuable addition to any collection. Overall, this holster represents a remarkable example of the high-quality craftsmanship that went into producing military holsters during the Civil War era.
