Item Description
Original Item: Only One available. Designated "Bandoliers for Mounted Cavalry P-1903" this is a brown leather bandolier with five leather pockets, each designed to carry two 5 round stripper clips of .303 cal. Ammunition. Though developed a decade before The Great War, they saw much use during the conflict, and were in use after as well.
The right side is stamped with 2 B D / A F A for the 2nd Brigade, Australian Field Artillery. The 2nd Field Artillery Brigade formed in Australia prior to embarkation in late 1914 to support the newly raised 2nd Brigade of the 1st Division, drawn mainly from Victoria. Its remained as part of the 1st Division Artillery from August 1914 – past November 1918, whereas for example the 3rd Artillery Brigade was reallocated to Army level command and control.
The leather is worn, and has faded to a wonderful russet color, but has scattered cracking. The inner securing straps are all still present and all brass studs are present. There is tearing by the brass buckle which would need to be repaired in order to display properly if you should wish to do so.
A wonderful condition bandolier ready for display!
