Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a lovely Pre-WWII set from the German Pleasure Cruise ship SS Ocean, owned and operated by the Hamburg American Line transatlantic shipping company. It is comprised of a lovely 38" x 1 1/4" BeVo embroidered rayon cap tally along with a pamphlet from a voyage, which contains inside both the daily schedule / program and the menu for the ship.

The Tally has the vessel name OCEANA between an NSDAP flag on the left and the Hamburg America line HAPAG flag on the right. The tally is in very good condition, showing some small holes and wear from use. 

The program / menu is printed on heavyweight paper, and measures 5 1/2" by 8 3/4" folded up. It is in great shape, showing the expected age toning. It also clearly displays NS= Gemeinschaft „Kraft durch Freude“ (NSDAP Program Strength through Joy) over the KdF "propeller" logo, indicating that this cruise was officially part of the program. This was an NSDAP recreation organization providing leisure during re-armament, and used to keep the populace happy, which would help ease into re-armament.

The Oceana had a long history, launched in 1912 and finally being broken up in 1963. During this time the ship had seven different names and saw service around the world. Her service with HAPAG began in 1927, when she was renamed the "Oceana" and then converted to a cruise ship in 1928. After 1935 she operated for the KdF-organization with a capacity of 700 passengers, doing cruises to Norway, Madeira and Genoa. In June 1939 she carried German legionnaires of the Condor Legion back home to Germany.
