Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. During any war, raising money from the populace to fund the war effort is of paramount importance. War Donation Propaganda is used around the world, and is highly collectible. This is a lovely 31 ¼" x 47 ¼" French WWI War Donation Poster, featuring a print of a famous lithograph by artist Abel Faivre in the center. This shows an Imperial German soldier with his Mauser rifle being attacked by the iconic "Gallic Rooster" on a 1915 dated gold French Coin. The soldier understandably is recoiling in fear from the large golden coin that is falling on him.
Above the illustration is a clear message (translation below):
POUR LA FRANCE, VERSEZ VOTRE OR
For France, Pour Your Gold
And under the illustration it reads:
L'Or Combat Pour La Victoire
Gold Fights for Victory
The message is simple: war funds will win the war. The lower left of the poster indicates that it was EDITÉ PAR LA SOCIÉTÉ DES AMIS DES ARTISTES (Published by the Society of Friends of Artists". DEVAMBEZ is the name of a famous printing house in Paris, who printed the poster.
The poster is in good condition, but definitely does show the effects of being over 100 years in age. The paper is a bit delicate, and there is cracking and tearing on the corners, as to be expected.
A great chance to pick up a solid example of a famous WWI poster!
