Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is the first time that we have had one of these very rare utility knives! Here we have a very nice example of a Wehrmacht Werkzeugmesser (Tool Knife), usually associated with use by machine gunner's during the war. There were several different makers, with designs that varied many regarding the grip material (wood or bakelite) and the finish on the tools (bright vs blued). The knife combines a 6 inch single edge knife blade, with a handle featuring four fold-out tools: a corkscrew, a flathead screwdriver, an awl tool with wire stripper hole, and a can opener with a small blade.
Our example features a bright steel blade in very good condition, which does show wear from use, cleaning, and sharpening. The grip scales are brown bakelite, which are in very good condition, with a crack by the middle right side cross pin. The handle still retains three of the four blued steel tools, with the can opener / small knife blade missing. There is also a bit of looseness around the center cross pin, which is also the pivot for the screwdriver and awl. This has made both tools somewhat loose.
The rolled steel scabbard is in goo condition, still retaining much of the original black enamel paint on both sides. There is scratching / chipping on both sides, particularly the front, and the belt loop is missing, as the rivets pulled through. The blade still fits nicely in the scabbard.
Overall condition is very good, most likely having been used post war. These were extremely popular as bring back items, as they were quite useful in everyday live. A very nice example of a very rare German WW2 utility knife, ready to add to your collection!
