Item Description

Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is a really phenomenal grouping of Charles T. Derosier, who was wounded in action while serving with Company G, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division during World War I. The grouping includes not only his original 1932-issue Purple Heart in the original box, but pieces from his uniform which was taken apart likely due to damage.

The grouping includes:
- Derosier’s Engraved Purple Heart Medal numbered 21374 in the original matching numbered box from Bailey, Banks, and Biddle, the most sought-after maker of these. Correct split brooch for the period with original ribbon. A very scarce item to find on its own. The paper with it notes he was wounded on February 27th, 1918.
- His Victory Medal with 5 bars for Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector.
- His Yankee Division 101st Infantry reunion Host medal, 1939.
-  NYS Victory Medal, likely not his. Numbered 44486.
- 26th Division patch, 3 Overseas chevrons, Sergeant Rate.
- Very unique 101st Infantry flower pin with tiny YD pin and 12 months foreign service.
- Two small welcome home Yankee pins.
- Yankee Division pin, circular.
- Yankee Division pin, enamel and diamond shaped.
- Several scraps from his uniform including his shoulder boards and collar, the collar retaining both collar discs for US and Infantry. His buttons are also retained.
- Tobacco baggie.
- 2 Captured German buttons.

Charles Thomas Derosier was born on January 24th 1898 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard on April 6th, 1917, the day war was declared. He was assigned to Company G, 101st Infantry Regiment. He traveled overseas 5 months later on September 17th, 1917 and arrived in France. He saw heavy combat in every engagement of the 26th Division, being wounded in Action on February 27th, 1918 during Chemin-des-Dames. He returned stateside on May 17th, 1919 and was discharged in July. He worked as a Fireman for several years and married Mary B. McGovern. He passed away on January 6th, 1989 at the old age of 90.

This is a phenomenal grouping to a very sought-after Division, one of the first to arrive in France. The Purple Heart alone is very scarce, making this a really great set. Ready for further research and display.
