Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. The M1912 Ration Bags were part of the failed experimental Model 1912 Cavalry Web Gear. The kit consisted of two bags that were used to carry rations and tools pertaining to the soldier and horse itself. The two bags lace together and can actually be worn on the back with the spring clips attached to the pistol belt. While these bags served to be rather impractical for the cavalry, they found a new home amongst the medical community.
These bags were recycled into use among the Corpsmen and Medics to be used for carrying extra medical supplies. The M1910 haversack was deemed unsuitable by the medics and they needed something that they could access quickly, these were the best option at the time, more than likely saving more lives due to the easier access. The bag itself is in great condition with staining and signs of field use.
It’s marked U.S. twice on the front and has maker’s marks and dates on the interior, however they are a bit too faded to read. Still retains the leather straps, a great piece overall.
