Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a lovely Danish short sword manufactured by E. & F. Hörster & Co Gmbh, is a well-known maker from Solingen, the famous "City of Blades" in Western Germany, which marketed many fine edged weapons. The sword comes in its original leather & steel scabbard which has shrunk a bit, and an original sword knot.
The blade is marked on the ricasso with the HS Sword trademark of E. & F. Hörster & Co Gmbh, is a well-known maker from Solingen, the famous "City of Blades" in Western Germany. Originally founded in 1850 as "Friedrich Hörster" in 1850, the company was renamed to E. & F. Hörster in 1870 at the behest of Friedrich Emil & Fritz Hörster. The firm lasted long after WWII, finally being declared insolvent in 1996. For more information please see GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS by J. Anthony Carter. The other side of the ricasso is marked with a Danish crown over 17, for inspection in 1917.
The hilt has a well-retained wire-wrapped leather grip with the original white and red sword knot still attached to the hilt.
The scabbard is in rough shape and is missing its frog knob, and doesn’t fit entirely well due to leather shrinkage. A good example, ready for further research and display.
