Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a lovely matched pair of sew-in style Heer Army Transportation and Supply Troops Unterfeldwebel (Staff Sergeant) Schulterklappen (Shoulder straps). They are the correct Unteroffiziere ohne Portepee (Junior NCO) version, with a row of diamond woven bullion NCO tresse around edge, and no rank pips installed. The seam end has a row of tresse to enclose the entire perimeter, indicating the rank of Unterfeldwebel. These are the 1938 pattern, with rounded ends and flaschengrün (dark bottle-green) "badge cloth" on the top, and feldgrau fabric on the bottom.

The piping around both are Hellblau (Light blue), the Corps Color (Waffenfarbe) for Transportation troops (Fahrtruppen) until 1942 and Supply troops (Nachschubtruppen) from 1942 onwards. Both also bear metal number 17 cyphers, probably for the 17th supply regiment or battalion.

Condition of both is very good, with the colors well retained, and there is no real mothing or major damage we can see. There are some white deposits on the light blue piping, possibly a long term reaction with the dye used.

The Heer as the German army and part of the Wehrmacht inherited its uniforms and rank structure from the Reichsheer of the Weimar Republic (1921–1935). There were few alterations and adjustments made as the army grew from a limited peacetime defense force of 100,000 men to a war-fighting force of several million men.

These ranks and insignia were specific to the Heer and in special cases to senior Wehrmacht officers in the independent services; the uniforms and rank systems of the other branches of the Wehrmacht, the Luftwaffe (Air Force) and Kriegsmarine (Navy), were different, as were those of the SS which was a Party organization outside the Wehrmacht. The NSDAP Party also had its own series of paramilitary uniforms and insignia.
