Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a great example of a lead knuckle duster dating from the United States Civil War. Made by melting down lead bullets, these were moderately popular for close combat during the war, and could easily be made with the heat from a campfire. These are quite smart looking, and probably were hand carved after the original casting. The finger holes are different shapes and sizes, with two smaller holes on the bottom. A great custom-made set.
The knuckles measure 4¾” inches wide by 2⅜” inches high and ⅝ inches wide. See others similar in Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia by Francis A. Lord, p. 156.
