Original Items: Only One Group Available. This is an excellent example of an extremely rare 27th Infantry Regiment patched tunic. The uniform itself is in wonderful condition and even comes paired with heavy wool knit socks, “trapper” winter cap, wool puttees and an M1910 Mess Kit.
The uniform has an incredibly attractive “wolfhounds” patch on the left shoulder. This is the SSI for the 27th Infantry Regiment. During the Russian Civil War, the 27th Infantry served in the American Expeditionary Force sent to Siberia in 1918. The troops embarked on the Army transports Crook, Merritt and Warren departing Manila on 7 August 1918 and arriving Vladivostok on 15 and 16 August. This campaign has become an integral part of the regiment's history. The tenacious pursuit tactics of the regiment won the respect of the Bolsheviks, who gave them the name "Wolfhounds." This emblem continues to serve as the symbol of the 27th Infantry Regiment. During their time in Siberia, the unit was part of the Evgenevka incident, a face-off between the Wolfhounds and the Japanese Military.
The tunic itself is in fantastic condition with signs of moderate wear, light moth nips and overall an excellent appearance. The lower left sleeve has 3 inverted overseas chevrons denoting 18 months overseas while the lower right sleeve has two wound stripes, reflecting the Purple Heart ribbon on the chest. The ribbons do appear to have been added for display purposes.
Overall this is an excellent piece of history, a perfect candidate for further research. Comes more than ready for display.
