Original Items. One-of-a-Kind. This is an extremely scarce set of three documents including a Wound Certificate, Marine War Service Certificate, and French Citation certificate named to Corporal Edwin H. Beltz, 8th Company, 5th Regiment, USMC, 2nd Division. Beltz was wounded severely on October 4th, 1918, by a gunshot wound through both of his hands. The set comes in its original shipping tube addressed to Beltz, which is unbelievably scarce to find all together.
Edwin Herman Beltz was born on November 7th, 1896 in Oneida, New York. On August 7th, 1917, Beltz enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was assigned to the 12th Company, 5th Regiment on December 7th, 1917. He arrived in France on December 31st, 1917, being transferred to the 17th Company in January. Beltz participated in every bit of combat the 5th Regiment saw, including the Battle of Belleau Wood, the Toulon Sector, the Aisne Defensive, Chateau Thierry, Aisne-Marne, Marbache, St. Mihiel, Champagne, and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He was wounded severely on October 4th, 1918, during the Battle of Blanc Mont. He went into Germany with the Army of Occupation and returned to the U.S. on July 25th, 1919. He was awarded the French Fourragere and was discharged on August 13th, 1919.
The Marine Service Certificate measures 10¾ x 18¼”, the Wound Certificate measures roughly 16¼ x 19”, and the French certificate measures roughly 12 x 18”. This set would look phenomenal framed and displayed together with the shipping tube. The documents have been rolled up together for over 100 years, so please be careful when handling the documents!
