Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic totally original late 19th century bronze cannon tube that measures 40 inches when including the cascabel. The bore is approximately 3 inches. The cannon is rifled and the touch hole is not spiked and remains small (not shot out). Behind the touch hole the is another larger hole for a rear sight, which is absent. This cannon tube was recovered in Kathmandu Nepal in 2003. It was part of a large cache of British military surplus firearms and artillery. It is offered in very good condition and is structurally sound.

Also included is an Armstrong Pattern zinc studded projectile which fits the tube perfectly. The zinc studs fit inside the wide rifling of the barrel allowing the projectile to spin and travel in a much straighter line than a smooth bore round ball.

Watch IMA's own antique gun expert Alex evaluate and shoot a Bronze Cannon on History Channel's Pawn Stars:

This example features a muzzle loaded tube (or barrel) that is bronze, totally original and very heavy. This cannon tube has not been polished nor cleaned and retains most of the patina and stains from its approximate 140+ years of existence. Originating from the British garrison in Kathmandu, Nepal where it has laid for at least the last 140+ years (see photos of the piles of bronze cannons we recovered) no markings remain, most likely those of the British Raj forces in India.
