Item Description
Original Item. One of a Kind. This is a really early Walnut stocked brass barrel British Naval Blunderbuss, made by JOSEPH FARMER, worked from 1718 until 1762. A recognized Contractor to the Crown, FARMER supplied 46" and 42" Brown Bess Muskets and Dragoon pistols, many of which were used in the American Revolutionary War.
This blunderbuss is 31" in overall length, with a 15 1/2" swamped barrel bearing British Proof marks. It is signed I. / FARMER / 1744 across the rear of the lock plate, with the expected CROWN over G.R. to the center of the lock plate. It has British Naval regulation brass mounts, including nailed on butt plate. In full working order and excellent condition overall.
There is some evidence of wood splits to the stock but nothing to detract from its appearance, which is quite appealing. There is a good deal of figuring to the stock, especially on the right wrist, which has some great tiger flame to it.
A worthy addition to any British Naval collection. Ready to display.
