Original British Napoleonic Incredibly Curved Light Infantry Officer’s Saber with Scabbard - Circa 1800

Regular price $1,495.00

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous Napoleonic officer’s saber meant for an officer of light infantry. The sword appears to be at least partially modeled after the well-known P-1796 Light Dragoon saber, but with a shorter blade, and a heavier curve. In fact, this may be one of the most curved sabers we have ever offered. This example dates roughly from 1800-1805, perfect for issue during the Napoleonic Wars or at Waterloo.

The saber features a gorgeous 24¾” curved blade that still retains some brightness, likely from centuries of having been cleaned & cared for. The blade features a 7” false edge with some scattered oxidation near the tip and at the ricasso.

The iron bird’s head reverse-P hilt has half-langets, and a gorgeous horn grip with fluting. The hilt shows some heavy oxidation with the rain chapes leaving some rust on the ricasso of the blade as well. The guard has some lovely corner designs with a slot for attachment of a sword knot.

The original 26” curved scabbard is in similar condition with scattered pitting & oxidation with the silver color still well-retained. Both suspension rings are present and without issue, and the drag is still intact with some minor material loss.

This is a tremendous example dating to the Napoleonic era, with enough of a curve to become the centerpiece of any early British collection. Comes ready for further research and display!
