Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The SS (Schutzstaffel - 'Protection Squadron') was originally formed in 1925, ostensibly to act as a small, loyal bodyguard unit to protect the Führer, Adolf AH. Under the direction of the Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the SS grew to be the most ruthless and feared organization of the 20th century. They were the vanguard of NSDAPsm and eventually controlled nearly every function of German life and much of Occupied Europe.

This is a very interesting piece, a small SS banner holder, measuring 25 1/2" in overall length, which has an ᛋᛋ doppelte Siegrune (Double Sig/Victory Rune) symbol pole topper. It also has what looks to be a wrist cord, so we assume that this small banner holder was hand held, and the user would stand in place with it.

Attached to the banner is an aged embroidered fabric banner measuring 27" x 4 3/4", which bears the text 15. Deutſches Turnfeſt Stuttgart 1933 over an interlocking TD logo. This translates to 15th German Gymnastics Festival Stuttgart 1933, and we assume that the TD logo is for "German Gymnastics". At the very bottom is a black horse on a yellow shield, the coat of arms of the city of Stuttgart. The reverse of the banner is red, and has the NSDAP black swas in a white circle on it.

We are not sure exactly what this banner would have been used for, or why it is on the SS pole, but it has definitely been there for a very long time, and is now almost falling apart due to age and exposure. A very interesting piece, ready to research and display!
