Original Item: Only One Available. Recently purchased at a militaria show, this is a genuine USGI bring back central insignia rondel from a German WWII NSDAP National Flag, measuring 36" in diameter. It is a piece of white circular fabric with a printed / dyed black NSDAP swas emblem, which looks to have been sewn onto a flag originally. It was cut off in 1944 by USGIs as they advanced into France, and is marked as follows:-
SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE
AUGUST 1944
H.S.
Unfortunately there are no names or units mentioned, but it still makes a wonderful display piece!
The National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English as the NSDAP Party, was a political party in Germany between 1919 and 1945. It was known as the German Workers' Party (DAP) before the name was changed in 1920. The party's last leader, Adolf AH, was appointed Chancellor of Germany by president Paul von Hindenburg in 1933. AH rapidly established a totalitarian regime known as the Third Reich.
The banner is double sided and of multi-piece construction, each side bearing a black swas (hook cross) printed onto a white canvas circle (one piece) stitched onto the red cotton background. This banner is a simplified design, so there is no white border around the central circle, and there is a fringe on the bottom, which feels like rayon. It measures 31" x 22", not counting the fringe on the bottom. There are small canvas ties at the top for attaching it, which look to have been added post manufacture when it was first used.
The banner is offered in lovely matured condition, showing staining and age toning from use. There are some holes, but no major damage, and it really has a fantastic look.
A very nice service used example, brought back from Europe by a USGI, ready to add to your collection!
