Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic unissued / New-Old-Stock WWII U.S. Army M4 Carbine bayonet fighting knife, with an original M8A1 scabbard. Nicely marked U.S. M4 / CASE on the blade side of the hand guard for the desirable maker, W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. of Bradford, PA.. An incredible find in MINT condition, unissued in the original wrap AND the issue labeled box! . The metal is still coated with cosmoline and wrapped in the original rust preventative treated wrapper.
The bayonet still has the original WWII issue leather washer grip, which does not have plastic spacers at the end, correct for a Case bayonet. The pommel is held on by an unusual "semi cylindrical" peening pattern, used only by Case Cutlery, and no other makers. This is definitely a WWII example, and not a later reissue.
It comes in a nice WWII issue OD green thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric scabbard, with Olive Drab hanger with a 1910 hook attached. The scabbard markings we cannot see, as we do not wish to remove the original wrapping material. However, most likely the scabbard is marked U.S. M8A1 / B.M. CO., (one of the most common makers) which is often paired with Victory Plastics, whose maker marking (a stylized V.P.) is visible on the reverse side of the scabbard body. The scabbard does not have a thong.
A phenomenal example of an issue WWII fighting knife/bayonet, in the same condition as it would have been issued over 75 years ago! It would be nearly impossible to upgrade from this excellent specimen. Ready to display with your WWII issue M1 Carbine!
