Item Description
Original Items: Only One Available. This is a very rare FL. 22413 Elektrischer Wendezeiger (Electric Turning Pointer) Turn and Bank Indicator from a German WWII Luftwaffe, as used ONLY in the late war night fighters such as the Dornier Do 335 Pfeil ("Arrow") and Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe ("Swallow") B series. The latter of these was the world's first operational Jet-powered fighter aircraft.
The instrument measures the turn angle and side-slip of the aircraft, and was connected to a SEPARATE dedicated battery, as opposed to the main electrics, so that power would never be interrupted. It was located in the Do335 and Me262B cockpit or main instrument panel and acted as a back-up Turn/Slip indicator in case there were issues with the main system (or electrics). It could also be plugged into a secondary socket for emergency use if needed. These are quite rare, and this is the first example that we have encountered!
The face of the instrument is relatively unmarked, and just has the FL 22413 indication in the center. There is a data plate on the rear, however it has unfortunately mostly worn away. It still retains the original power cable and even the plug for powering it from the accessory socket if needed. Unfortunately the power cable has seen better days, and the insulation has started to crumble away. A very nice example of a very hard to find Luftwaffe instrument!
