Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. In the United States Military, a guidon is a military standard that company/battery/troop or platoon-sized detachments carry to signify their unit designation and branch/corps affiliation or the title of the individual who carries it. A basic guidon can be rectangular, but more often has a triangular portion removed from the fly (known as "swallow-tailed").

This is a Post-WWII Era German pennant flag for the 363rd Panzer Battalion, which was formed in October 1963. The unit was garrisoned out of Böblingen
1964 Külsheim (Prinz-Eugen-Kaserne). The unit won the Canadian Army Trophy in 1987, a tank gunnery competition established to foster excellence, camaraderie and competition among the armoured forces of the NATO countries in Western Europe. The unit was disbanded on October 30th, 2006.

The pennant features the unit’s mascot, a buffalo on a shield, under the unit designation Pz Btl 363. It is on a board measuring 16 x 22”, and is well-attached. It is on a wooden rod with a rope to hang it.

A great example, ready for further research and display.

The pennant came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser's donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this uniform was acquired.
