Item Description
Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting WWI Tank Corps Captain’s uniform which has seen better days. The jacket has gorgeous insignia, but is heavily damaged, with scattered mothing across the uniform, and both breast pockets are partially detached. It’s also missing one of each collar insignia.
The jacket has a gorgeous cross-stitched tri-color Tank Corps patch on the left shoulder, with two overseas chevrons on the left cuff. There are bullion Captain’s bars on both shoulders, and the collar bears one Tank Corps insignia and one U.S. insignia. There is a U.S. WWI Victory ribbon above the left breast pocket. The interior has a maker’s tag for Traymore Tailoring Co. in Philadelphia, PA. There is a nametag on the interior pocket dated January 2nd, 1918, which names the jacket to Captain Ralph S. Croskey. Croskey was the commanding officer of Company C, 103rd Ammunition Train, 28th Division before being transferred to the Supply Company, 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, and again transferred to the Supply Company, 53rd Infantry Regiment, 6th Division. This jacket was definitely worn by Croskey and then given or reissued to the Captain who wore it with the Tank Corps.
This is a very rough example of a uniform worn by a Captain of the very first iteration of the United States Tank Corps. Comes ready for further research and display.
