Original Item. One-of-a-kind. This is a tremendous plaque with bits and pieces of battlefield relics picked up by British soldiers, along with battle annotations, sent to Elizabeth Trimble by an Army officer in France in recognition of the “comforts” sent to his men by her Voluntary Aid Detachment working group. Comforts were scarves, balaclava helmets, gloves, socks, etc.
The shield measures 7½ x 10½” and includes a scroll reading 1914-15-16 indicating that it was sent in early 1916.
This is a fantastic wartime plaque with fantastic provenance, ready for further research and display.
