Item Description
Original Item: Only-One-Available. This is the official U.S. Army Officer's Sword, introduced in the early 1900's (M-1902). It has a four bar nickel plated hand guard, black plastic finger grooved grip, slim slightly curved fully etched and nickel-plated blade. The etched design has typical United States Military emblems, including the Federal Eagle, crossed cannons, flags, and so forth. There is no maker mark.
The sword is engraved:
JOHN J. TOWNSEND
FROM THE ENLISTED MEMBERS OF
CO. A, 108 Q.M. REGT.
This is actually an incredibly ornate presentation sword with lovely ornate fittings on the scabbard and a very well-executed hilt. The sword is 37 inches in overall length, with a 32 inch blade. Condition is very good, but there are many chips and dents in the blade edge. It comes complete with its matching very ornate scabbard Scabbard.
The throat fitting of the scabbard is engraved on the side:
JOHN J. TOWNSEND
FROM THE ENLISTED MEMBERS OF
CO. A, 108 Q.M. REGT.
This sword was presented to Townsend by members of Company A, 108th Quartermaster Regiment. A great research opportunity!
A lovely, rare “deluxe” version of the Officer’s M-1902 presentation sword, comes more than ready for further research and display.
