Item Description
New Made Item: Copied directly from an original in the IMA collection this German WW2 Canteen Cup is a nearly identical match to an original. The canteen is, perhaps, one of the most essential and attractive items of infantry equipment. Its evolution when compared to its predecessor from the First World War lies in the inclusion of a metal or Bakelite cup. As with all the infantry equipment its design was simplified over the course of the war. Beginning in 1940 was the bakelite cup that was mounted on top of the canteen held in place by the carry strap that secured the canteen to the bread bag or waist belt.
This bakelite cup is actually constructed of heavy flat black plastic (flat finish, not gloss which plagues most reproductions on the market today) with correct dimensions and even marked properly! Each cup bears a 1940 date, and the manufacturers code gfc which corresponds to the famous chemical industrialist Julis Posselt, of Jablonec and Nisou (present-day Czech Republic). This will complete any World War Two German canteen!
