Item Description
Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a tremendous WWI British Major General’s uniform with button
There is a very long six-place ribbon back above the left breast pocket. The first ribbon on the rack is gone or worn away, but the other five ribbons include the New Zealand 1865 Medal, the Sudan 1896 Medal, the South Africa (Queens) Medal, the South Africa (Kings) Medal, and the Sudan (Khevides) Medal. There is some red felt under the lost ribbon, so it could possibly be for China 1900 or Abyssinia 1868.
The shoulder boards both bear an insignia of a Mameluke Sword & scabbard above a single “pip” rank, denoting the General rank of Major General. The collars both bear the General’s “Gorget” insignia, with red felt backings with bullion leaves and acorns across them. These indicate a General Officer.
The buttons of the uniform read Honi soit qui mal y pense with GR V in the middle denoting the reign of George V. We are unsure what branch this general was in, but it makes for a fantastic research project. All of the insignia is period-applied and appropriate, and the lining of the jacket has a lovely checkered pattern, very evident of private purchase.
This is a really great British WWI General’s uniform, ready for further research and display!
