Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is a tremendous & scarce uniform set worn by a Capitaine of the Colonial Field Artillery as indicated by the buttons which bear an anchor over crossed cannons. This uniform is completely correct, with the colonial shoulder boards only bearing fringe on one side, which was regulation. The set comes with its original Kepi bearing a crescent moon under a 2, possibly referring to the 2nd Colonial Field Artillery Regiment, but due to its scarcity, there isn’t much reference to colonial units.
This gorgeous dark blue uniform bears three cuff buttons over a red background on each cuff, surrounded by three rows of gold tape, denoting the officer’s rank, Capitaine, and the branch, Artillery. The jacket retains all nine of its coat buttons at the front, each bearing the anchor over crossed cannons denoting Colonial Field Artillery. The collar is red with bullion flaming bomb devices placed horizontally on each side. The left sleeve of the uniform bears two gold chevrons for war service. The shoulder boards are each held in by a Colonial Field Artillery button, with the left board having fringe and the right board having none. This was the correct configuration for colonial officers.
The left breast has stitching loops for the attachment of a ribbon or medal bar which is absent. The back of the uniform still retains its six buttons.
The matching Kepi is in fantastic condition, with a small colonial crescent moon device attached under a 2, likely denoting the regiment. The gold tape chinstrap is held in by two Field Artillery buttons, and there are a pair of initials, F.T., on the sweatband. The kepi is in great shape overall and really brings the display together.
This is a tremendous grouping to a First World War Colonial Field Artillery Capitaine, ready for further research and display!
