Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a tremendously rare large size propaganda poster from the German-Occupied Netherlands for the WHN, an organization that provided help and support to the needy and weak during WWII, often by raising money through lotteries and collections. This aid organization, founded in October 1940 following the example of the German Winterhilfe, was also used as a National Socialist propaganda institute. The poster is in fantastic shape with folds visible and no major tears or damage. Please be sure to review all photos.

The poster features a white candle with two pine branches and red WHN collection box on a dark background. The top reads 22-23 DECEMBER STRAATCOLLECTE, meaning Street Collection. The bottom reads WINTERHULP / NEDERLAND (Winter Help Netherlands), the organization who published it. These words are in Dutch, as the poster was meant to be read by citizens of the Netherlands.

The very bottom of the poster reads in German,  'Offentlicher Aushang gehmigt durch die Dienststelle des Reichskommissars No. 31, K.288' which translates to Public notice approved by the office of the Reich Commissioner No. 31, K.288. These are German government markings, as the Netherlands were occupied by Germany at the time this poster was published.

This is an increasingly scarce poster from a very terrifying time in Dutch history. It’s ready for further research and framing for display.
