Item Description

Original Set. Only One Available. This is without a doubt the greatest German flight helmet set we have offered. The set consists of a phenomenal LKpW101 flight helmet with fully correct and intact communication setup, with attached throat microphones, installed LN26602 headphones, and a bakelite 4 pin connector on the back, a great set of goggles, and an unbelievably scarce Auer 10-67 Oxygen mask. Made By Auer-Gesellschaft of Berlin, this was the oxygen mask Luftwaffe pilots used during the Battle-of-Britain. It is the most desirable oxygen mask used by Luftwaffe pilots, and it is the first example we have ever offered.

The flight helmet is one of the best we have offered, a model LKp W101. This is a helmet for winter, as indicated by the W. It is made of leather, with a very nice rabbit fur lining, which has a chamois backed forehead area and neck straps. The helmet retains the original throat microphone which is in immaculate condition. The wire is still wrapped and secured by the strap on the back. The helmet still has a clear original manufacturers tag on the interior rear:

FL. Kopfhaube  Gr.
Baumuster LKp W101
Gerät - Nr  124-436 A
Werk - Nr –/Köster
Anf. Z    Ln 26618

The only possible issue to report on the helmet is one of the headphones is cracked on the interior, but this isn’t an issue unless you plan on using it. Both chin straps are still intact, as are both buckles. The wiring for the headphones is marked on the plug BLKvFL27560. The throat microphones are marked Mi4b and Ln 26779-2 meaning the avionics are composed of round Mi4b magnetic type throat microphones with four-pole break coupling/plug. The helmet retains the hooks for the oxygen mask.

The goggles are in great condition with still-supple rubber and a fully retained strap. A great addition.

The AUER-10-67 oxygen mask is near pristine, and retains all of its original parts. The face hugger shroud is still completely supple, and the elastic of the strap is still springy. The rubber hose is in amazing condition but does show a small bit of dry rot, and the very end of the hose is tearing a small bit from the endpiece. The buckle is still fully functional and is marked AB. The other side of the buckle appears to have letters scratched onto it, ASA. This could possibly be a set of pilot’s initials, but of this we can’t be certain. The rubber of the mask is still very supple. The mask is marked AUER-10-67 and G-2. This would be near impossible to upgrade, and with a phenomenal flight helmet and goggles, this is by far the nicest flight helmet set we have offered. We have never had a AUER-10-67 oxygen mask before, and we don’t know if we ever will again.

This is the greatest possible example of a German WWII Flying helmet set you could find, complete with headphones, throat microphone, oxygen mask, and goggles. We don't expect to find another like this any time soon. Ready to add to your collection!

More on the Model LKP W-101:

A dark brown leather flying helmet lined with sheepskin or rabbit fur and made from the same basic pattern as the LKp W-100 but with new Siemens communications and improved insulation for better sound transmission. The major visible difference between this helmet and its predecessor was the design of the earphone housings and throat microphone straps. Instead of metal or plastic domes, the earphones were housed in hard rubber cups covered with dark brown leather which had a more streamlined appearance. The leather outer covering was designed with a recess at the top which helped secure the goggle straps in place. Sound quality was further enhanced by the installation of a translucent plastic membrane inside the helmet between the cushioned fleece lining and the earphone speaker. This served the dual function of filtering excess noise and keeping dust out of the sensitive electronics. The housing for the throat microphones on the LKp W-101 was also improved. Two straps containing the microphone contacts were linked by an inverted “T” shaped leather envelope at the nape of the helmet. This housing also served as the junction between the helmet’s internal wiring and the long cord and plug-in connector. The throat straps were adjustable on both sides by means of two small buckles, and once the correct sizing was achieved, could be quickly joined together at the front of the throat by one or two snap fasteners. Later examples of this helmet have been found with a friction release attachment for adjusting the tension of the throat microphones, although this is more commonly seen on the LKpN mesh flying helmets. The model LKp W-101 was produced with hardware for the three-strap oxygen mask, but many were modified to accept the two-strap mask by the addition of studs on either side of the helmet.
