Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Technical Emergency Corp was formed on September 30, 1919 to assist the German population during times of crisis and disaster resulting from natural catastrophes. The TENO Daggers, Hewer and Leader’s Dagger was authorized for wear by all Teno Officers and subordinates members in 1938. The Hewer was intended for actual use in emergencies as an axe or hacking knife. The sole manufacturer of both TENO hewers was Carl Eickhorn. The Leaders Teno Dagger was designed solely for ornamental wear. These are highly sought after due to the rarity of them and this is only the fourth that we have had, with matching serial numbers too!

This is a well used example of a rare TeNo hewer, which was converted into a fighting knife during WWII, possibly after being captured by a USGI. The original grip scales were removed, and the pommel as well. A new stacked leather grip was installed, and the pommel re-installed, now held in place by a flat head screw. The clip-point blade was reprofiled a bit to lighten it, and then given a fully sharpened edge. It looks to have seen a good amount of use since that point, and has a lovely patinated look.

The blade’s ricasso is still etched with GES. GESCH. for Gesetzlich Geschützt (Protected By Law), indicating that the hewer is a trademarked design. In between is a lovely TeNo insignia which consists of an Eagle with wings spread and a swas with cog wheel with a T hammer and N crossed in the center. Beneath the TeNo symbol is the left portion of a 1935-41 Eickhorn trademark, which originally showed a seated squirrel holding a sword, with the word ORIGINAL above and the firm's name and location, Eickhorn / SOLINGEN below. Carl Eickhorn is a legendary maker from Solingen, the famous "City of Blades" in Western Germany.

According to J. Anthony Carter's book, GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS, this company was founded in 1865 by Carl Eickhorn, and is arguably the most famous of all Solingen makers. Not only could the family trace their history back 500 years, but they could also demonstrate involvement in the hardening and grinding industries for the same period. Truly the nobility of Solingen Edged weapon dynasties. Eickhorn edged weapons are the most desirable of all makers.

On the opposite side of the blade’s ricasso is the serial number 1148 , which would normally match the scabbard it was issued with. The aluminum handle was originally fully nickel plated, however most of that finish is now gone. It shows wear from service, but no major damage.

A very interesting TeNo hewer modified into a fighting knife, originally made by the most legendary of all Solingen makers. Comes more than ready for display.
