Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice example of a Model 1932 Royal Hungarian Air Force Officer Pilot Dagger, complete with the original brass scabbard. These were carried during ceremonial occasions by pilots and senior officers who had been active flyers previously. These are extremely scarce.
The dagger has a lovely Eagle's head pommel, ribbed black bakelite grip, and brass crossguard. The Eagle on the cross guard is the correct Nickel Silver for a lower ranked officer: high ranked officers would have a gold Eagle on the cross guard. The hilt has a scabbard release button on the opposite side from the great wing guard. The 8 1/2" blade has traces of past etching or engraving, but looks to have been cleaned multiple times, which has made the designs faint. This example is serial numbered on the ricasso RHI 1245 with a maker’s mark under that. The opposite side of the ricasso has the Hungarian crest.
The scabbard is the standard type seen, made of lacquered polished brass. It has the Royal Coat of Arms of Hungary inside a wreath embossed onto the scabbard. The two hanger rings are present, but the hanger itself is absent.
Condition is very good, with the expected wear of age. A seldom seen naval dagger, ready to add to your collection!
