Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a nice fair conditioned, turn of the century Imperial German pickelhaube Fire helmet, made with the standard boiled leather body, with some issues and repairs. It is a single piece design, with additional components added to the main shell.

The helmet is fit all in brass, with one original cockade and a small piece of chinstrap hanging from that end. The front visor has come off of its stitching and could use some repair. The brass top comb has had one of its fittings replaced under the helmet. The liner is in great condition overall.

The central plate (wappen) has the silver crest of the city of Dornheim atop a brass fireman plate with einer für alle meaning “one for all” and alle für einen meaning “all for one”. This looks to be an EM/NCO helmet, as it does not have any of the fancy appointments seen on an officer helmet, and has a plain leather chinstrap and multi-finger leather liner. The front visor as mentioned slides up and down as the stitched is broken, this helmet will need a proper form head or hat stand to allow it to sit without further damage. Both the front and back visor have bubbling on the leather which is common for helmets of this age. The cockade is a rare example for the state of Hessen, which is where Dornheim is located.

This is an unusual and very attractive item. Offered in fair condition. There is a size stamp on the liner, 58.
