Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a lovely WWII Italian Division General’s Uniform grouping consisting of the uniform jacket, trousers, and Bustina field cap. The jacket has some gorgeous insignia and a 10-place ribbon bar. This would be a great research project.

The uniform came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser's donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this uniform was acquired.

The grouping includes:

- Italian WWII M1934 Uniform jacket with a 10-place ribbon bar, including the Gold Medal of Military Valor with star, The Silver Medal of Military Valor (star is missing), The Long Service XVI Medal, The Medal of Long Service, the Sardinia & Kingdom of Italy Libya Medal, The War Merit Cross (two stars missing), The 1915-1918 War Medal with 4 star devices, The Medal for Volunteers of the War 1940-45, Commemorative Medal of the Unity of Italy, and the 1943-1944 Italian Campaign Medal. There are two crossed sword patches above the ribbon bar, the meaning of which we are unsure. Both cuffs have stitched ranks for Divisional General, or Generale Di Divisione, but the right cuff’s insignia is partially detached and fraying. There are two bullion stars on the collar. The jacket has some moth damage, but there are now small bags of cedar in each pocket, so the damage is neutralized. There are no tags or names we could find on the interior.
- Italian WWII Uniform trousers, similar moth damage but nothing serious, matches the jacket well.
- Italian WWII 2 Star General Bustina Field Cap for Generale di Divisione with a lovely two-star board stitched to the side, and to the front is a very fine embroidered gold bullion on crimson background Italian Army cap insignia. This green wool field cap features fold down side panels are held together over the crown of the cap by two corresponding hidden snaps. The size is approximately 7.

This is a wonderful example of an Italian Division General’s uniform, ready for further research. Comes ready to display.
