Item Description
Idiot Clause - the contents of this pack are 1945 manufacture and are NOT suitable for consumption. They are being sold as novelty collector pieces only. Even though some people on YouTube have tried.
Original Items. Only One Lot Available. This is a great lot of four packs of Japanese cigarettes issued or sold in Japan during World War II. They are all of different varieties, different makers, and are in varying conditions.
The packs are all still filled with cigarettes, with one still having a plastic wrapping and depicting crossed rising sun Japanese flags. Another depicts a Japanese helmet sitting on the ground. None of them appear to be “Sealed”.
Order of packs top to bottom, left to right.
1 - "Homare" ('Honor') brand, c. 1934-1940 issue. This is a proprietary military brand, though it started as a civilian brand in 1908-1916.
2 - "Tsuwamono" ('Warrior') brand, 1940-45 commercial issue. The sepia color is wartime to save on ink. This was a leading brand in colonial Taiwan.
3 - "Kinshi" ('Golden Kite') brand, 1943-44 issue. This is the 1940 rebrand of the old 'Golden Bat' brand, one of the most ubiquitous brands.
4 - "Asahi" ('Morning Light') brand, 1940-43 issue. Also a simplified wartime color scheme for to save ink.
NOTE: None of these are missing tax stamps, as Japan stopped using them in 1904 when the Tobacco and Salt Monopoly Bureau took over. The round seal printed on each pack fulfills the same function.
This is a great set of WWII Japanese cigarettes, ready for further research and display!
