Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Originals of this jerkin/vests are virtually impossible to find, and we had reproductions made for this very reason. Now for the first time ever, we have acquired an excellent unissued example of one of these Bren Assault Jerkin / Vests. Designed to be worn over the Battle dress uniform, these Bren vests carried spare Bren gun magazines in two pouches, one mounted on either side of the chest. Sometimes called the "Tommy Jacket", these were used by British Commando and Airborne troops during WWII.
The vest is Made from a brown canvas material with olive colored reinforcements on the underside. There are khaki webbing straps with brass buckles to fasten the vest. The mag pockets have a wooden toggle fasteners, which go through twine loops under the pockets. There is a large reinforcement panel on the middle inner back, which gives the maker as W.&G. and is dated 1945. There is also a part number of A.C. 6047 and two Broad Arrow Proofs. We can also see some markings in colored pencil from storage.
Condition is excellent, and we see little evidence that it was ever issued. A fantastic chance to pick up a lovely example of a very rare Bren Magazine Vest!
