Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Technical Emergency Corp was formed on September 30, 1919 to assist the German population during times of crisis and disaster resulting from natural catastrophes. The TENO knives, the Hewer and Leader’s Dagger, were authorized for wear by all Teno Officers and subordinates members in 1938. The Hewer was intended for actual use in emergencies as an axe or hacking knife, while the Leaders Teno Dagger was designed solely for ornamental wear. The sole manufacturer of both TENO hewers was Carl Eickhorn. These both are highly sought after due to the rarity of them and this is only the fifth TeNo knife that we have had, and the FIRST time that we have had the rare Leader's dagger! It is in fantastic condition, and is number matching as well!

This is a fantastic example of a rare TeNo officers dagger, which appears to have seen light to moderate use / wear during the war. These were intended as more symbols than weapons, unlike the Enlisted hewer. The unplated steel blade of this dagger is in very good condition, retaining the original factory crossgrain throughout the blade surface. This texture is iconic, and is the definitive identifying characteristic for a real WWII German Blade. There is a bit of runner wear and scuffing, as well as some very faint staining, which was later polished out. The edge is completely unsharpened, with an intact tip, and shows no signs of use. Definitely a great blade here!

The blade’s ricasso is strongly etched with GES. GESCH. for Gesetzlich Geschützt (Protected By Law), indicating that the hewer is a trademarked design. In between Ges. Gesch. Is a lovely TeNo insignia which consists of an Eagle with wings spread and a swas with cog wheel with a hammer and N crossed in the center.

Beneath the TeNo symbol is the etched 1935-41 Eickhorn trademark: a seated squirrel holding a sword, with the word ORIGINAL above and the firm's name and location, Eickhorn / SOLINGEN below. Carl Eickhorn is a legendary maker from Solingen, the famous "City of Blades" in Western Germany. According to J. Anthony Carter's book, GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS, this company was founded in 1865 by Carl Eickhorn, and is arguably the most famous of all Solingen makers. Not only could the family trace their history back 500 years, but they could also demonstrate involvement in the hardening and grinding industries for the same period. Truly the nobility of Solingen Edged weapon dynasties. Eickhorn edged weapons are the most desirable of all makers.

On the opposite side of the blade’s ricasso is the serial number 2654 and this matches the serial number on the top of the throat fitting of the scabbard. The handle on this example features lovely ribbed orange celluloid grip, which has faded from the original ivory white, as most do. It is in excellent condition, showing no cracking or damage, and it is a bit lighter on one side due to different amounts of light exposure. The alloy crossguard and pommel are in lovely condition with all detail retained, still retaining most of the original plating, though there is some pin pricking and bubbling. It looks to originally have been oxide coated to give it a lovely "antiqued" look. The pommel is a flat round design, with the TeNo gear on both sides. The cross guard shows an art-deco TeNo eagle looking to the viewer's left, perched upon a swas with the TeNo logo on top.

The scabbard is also in great shape, and is much like a wider version of the Heer Army scabbard. It is made from plated steel, still straight, and showing some light denting. Both sides show lovely pebbled panels, with some nice throat fittings and a decorative drag at the bottom. The plating, like that on the handle, looks to originally have been antiqued, which has mostly worn away. The scabbard throat is stamped on top with the matching serial number of 2654. and the hanger rings are in great shape. The throat is retained by a single cheese-head screw on the reverse.

This is a wonderful example and we are most likely not going to see another one anytime soon, as this is the first that we have had in all of our years of business. Comes more than ready for display.
