Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very attractive-looking Swiss training rifle, modeled after the SIG STGW 57, or the Sturmgewehr 1957. It was the standard assault rifle of the Swiss Army in caliber 7.5 × 55 mm in the second half of the 20th century. It was introduced in 1959/1960 and replaced in the 1990s by the SIG 550.
The training rifle is completely made from metal besides the sling, which is leather. This is one of the heaviest training rifles out there, and is built with a rotating carry handle. The sling is in great condition without any flaws or damage.
The training rifle measures 51½” long and is in good overall condition with the normal wear and tear of storage. Comes ready for further research and display.
The Stgw 57 is a recoil loader with a delayed, two-part mass bolt, similar to the G3 from Heckler & Koch . When firing, two retractable rollers delay the recoil of the bolt head and thus the extraction of the cartridge case until the pressure in the barrel has largely been reduced. To prevent the case from rupturing, pressure compensation grooves are milled into the cartridge chamber. The firing cup and the muzzle brake are an integral part of the barrel. The rifle can fire either single or continuous fire .
The manufacturer was SIG (Swiss Industrial Company), and the designer was Rudolf Amsler. The Stgw 57 is heavier than other assault rifles, more elaborately manufactured (with bipod, carrying handle, barrel shroud) and therefore more expensive. However, it is considered to be very accurate and can also be controlled in burst fire , which is why it is considered one of the most precise assault rifles in the world. In total, almost 1 million of these weapons were produced, of which 740,000 were delivered to the Swiss Army.
