This is a GWOT (Global War on Terror) era Stinger Missile trainer. It contains no actual parts from a FIM-92 Stinger and is constructed of resin, metal, and rubber, with fabricated markings and an original sling for display.
The rubber endpiece is marked CAV. NO. 65” XH DUAL LITE NEOPRENE MADE IN USA ASTM 0564 1969 PAT. PEND. CPD No. 10MOLO No. 1. We are unsure of the meanings of these markings and they lively have more to do with the rubber endpiece’s construction rather than the entire piece. None of the pieces function and there appears to be the front and back pieces of a stinger rocket inserted into both ends, likely just for display purposes. We were unable to remove either piece so there’s likely no movement. The entire set measures 58” long.
The original sling makes for a good display. There may be pieces missing, but we have no reference for what these trainers originally looked like, so we are unsure. A great example for display purposes! Comes ready for further research and display.
The FIM-92 Stinger is an American man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) that operates as an infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM). It can be adapted to fire from a wide variety of ground vehicles, and from helicopters and drones as the Air-to-Air Stinger (ATAS). It entered service in 1981 and is used by the militaries of the United States and 29 other countries. It is principally manufactured by Raytheon Missiles & Defense and is produced under license by Airbus Defence and Space in Germany and by Roketsan in Turkey.
