Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a stellar embossed brass powder flask most likely manufactured by G. & J.W. Hawksley-Sheffield. George and John Williams, brothers are recorded as opening the company of G & JW Hawksley on the early 9th century, 1840. They did not make arms, but accouterments. Beyond this they specialized in gun powder flasks and silver flasks. This is a rather small example.
The flask itself is not marked but we have seen another example with this exact same depiction marked to Hawksley, so it is most likely also by them. The cap on this example is attached via three small screws and does not “screw off” like later examples. This example dates to the Mexican-American War period, but was likely meant as a hunting flask given the depiction. A very beautiful flask that will fit well into any Civil War or 19th Century firearm collection! The flask measures roughly 6” in length.
