Original Item: Only One Available. Designed by the Office of Naval Research's Special Devices Center, this cutaway classroom training model measures 79 inches in overall length, and demonstrates the inner workings of the Browning Model 1919A6 Machine Gun. These are very hard to come by, especially with an original belt of dummy rounds. These were used as a way to familiarize service members with the inner workings of the Browning M1919, which was in use for decades as a front line weapon. It also bears many similarities to the Browning M2, which is still in service today. This example is in great shape and comes with a custom-built display stand!
The display model is made from mostly non-magnetic material, we believe zinc or something similar, which definitely makes it light weight, but also much less strong. With many areas cut out, this made it somewhat brittle, and parts were often lost. This example is in great shape, however, with most parts retained from what we can tell. The trigger & cocking handle are a bit stiff, probably due to being in storage for quite a long time. You can still pull the lever forward and push it back without issue. The front and rear sights still fold down as intended. The set retains its original paint, with the cutaway parts still correctly painted red. There aren’t many markings we could find besides on some specific parts, with a rod on the interior being marked 156503. The front of the barrel is marked 156478. This leads us to believe that these are just part numbers.
The custom-made stand measures roughly 12 x 36½ x 5½” and is very well put together, with the legs being welded on. The wooden base has two holes cut for the mounting piece to sit in when the gun is placed in the display. A really phenomenal addition that makes this piece ready to display!
