Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a stunning hand-drawn cartoon done during the WWI Era, likely the 1920s, of several soldiers & a band bidding farewell to a friend who is standing atop a train car which is leaving the station. The cartoon characters featured in this artwork are very unique and almost have a Disney-esque design. The only thing close to an Artist ID is a set of initials on the side of a train car, F.E.C..

The drawing depicts a train station with a sign reading WELCOME POTGUT MOHLHENRICH with POTLUCK crossed out, all in childish and some backwards lettering. The sign above the door reads FORT MEADE which is located in Maryland. There is a band to the left of the train with a drum, clarinet, and tuba, with soldiers on the right waving flags, holding balloons, and one soldier licking a lollipop or cotton candy. The line-work on this drawing is phenomenal, and the small details really come together here. The bottom of the drawing reads in a unique font, BEST OF LUCK BUD

The back of the sheet has the artist’s first draft, with a small outline of the soldier licking the lollipop. There are three holes at the top from the binder this was once part of. This is a fantastic piece of artwork that could definitely use some custom framing. Comes ready for further research and display!
