Item Description

Original Group. One-of-a-Kind. This is a great WWII duffel bag grouping to Raymond P. Murphy, Communications Specialist, Army Air Corps, who served during World War II. The group has a great deal of ephemera that makes for a great research project.

The lot includes:

-Duffel bag reading RAYMOND P. MURPHY 37323441 with contents of group inside.
-Uniform Jacket with AAF Patch, Private chevrons, U.S. and Air Corps collar discs, Communications specialist patch on the left cuff, and a Pistol-D Sharpshooter badge.
-Two uniform shirts.
-Oversea’s cap with AAF Piping and DUI. Size 6 7/8
-Sewing kit named to Murphy with unit.
-Truax Field stationary packet in great shape with lots of color, lots of stationary remaining.
-Great bound Air Corps Basic Photography training manual with two private chevrons in the back.
-Souvenir throw-blanket from Florence, Italy 1944 dated. Roughly 18 x 19”.
-Souvenir throw-blanket with Signal Corps insignia for Drew Field, Florida. Roughly 17 x 18”.
-Container of Poison Wood Alcohol.
-A second smaller duffel bag inside. Laundry number marked.
-Lot of War Ration books named to Murphy.
-Stationary from Army Technical School in South Dakota. 
-Several American War Standard training manuals dated 1943 for aviation & radio equipment.
-Tons of pink paper with airplane photos on them used for training the mind to learn shapes & silhouettes of friendly and enemy aircraft. Many have annotations.
-“The Beam” yearbook for Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin. Army Air Forces Technical Training Command. Really great book with great illustrations and photos. Photos of all men in the back. 
-Loose patches including AAF and private.
-Several souvenir maps and books from his service stateside. Along with soldier’s handbook and much more ephemera.

In our research we’ve found that Murphy was admitted to the hospital at Drew Field, Florida in September 1943 for Defective vision, for which he was discharged in October 1943. This is a great stateside uniform grouping that definitely requires more research. Comes ready for further research and display!
