Original Item. Only One Available. This is an extremely scarce scabbard for the Experimental T2 HotPoint Bayonet for the M1 Garand rifle. These bayonets were tested in limited numbers by the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps as a potential replacement for the M1 bayonet, with simplified construction along with a stamped sheet metal scabbard in an attempt to speed up production capabilities. The project was ultimately terminated due to the indication that the M1 bayonet was deemed satisfactory and there were enough of them made already. There were a few variations reportedly produced and tested, with very few surviving specimens today.
The scabbard has an absolutely phenomenal patina to it, with basic oxidation on one side. The paint is roughly 80% retained on this side, but about 95% retained on the reverse side. The scabbard appears straight and without any dents.
The Hot Point bayonet is near impossible to find in any condition, with complete examples being seen occasionally on eBay for $2,000-4,000. Here is a rare opportunity to complete your bayonet with the original scabbard. The scabbard measures roughly 11⅛” long.
