  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a gorgeous engraved M1910 canteen engraved by a German Prisoner of War while being kept prisoner at Camp Gordon, which housed German and Italian POWs during World War II. The canteen depicts a scene from Afrika, as engraved by the German POW who served there. The back depicts cacti and a seal of the US surrounded by a wreath.

The canteen is named to S/Sgt. John A. Lange, certainly the owner of the canteen who likely paid the German POW to engrave it like this. The POW’s name is K. Weik as he signed the depiction on the front. The front of the canteen depicts a gorgeous scene of a Castle in Africa, with a sunset peaking behind the mountains. Two palm trees complete the scene at the sides.

The back of the canteen reads ANDENKEN AN CAMP-GORDON, or Souvenir of Camp Gordon. The canteen was manufactured in 1942 by A.C.U. Co.

A fantastic example of a POW-engraved canteen, ready for further research and display.
