Original Items: Only One Set of 7 Available. The Vietnam People's Air Force, formally refers itself as the Air Defence - Air Force or the Vietnamese Air Force, is the aerial warfare service branch of Vietnam. It is the successor of the former North Vietnamese Air Force and absorbed the South Vietnamese Air Force following the reunification of Vietnam in 1975 and being one of three main branches of the Vietnam People's Army, which is under the management of the Ministry of National Defence. The main mission of the VPAF is the defense of Vietnamese airspace and the provision of air cover for operations of the People's Army of Vietnam.
The Items In This Lot:
- Soviet ZSh-3 Pilots Helmet With Inner Helmet and Oxygen Mask: The ZSh-3 Pilot Helmet was first introduced in the early 1960's and is used in virtually every type of Soviet-made aircraft - from the MiG-17 to the MiG-29, from the Il-76 cargo plane to the Mi-24 Attack Helicopter. This is the most widely used flight helmet in the world.
There are three air vents in the upper front of the helmet to aid in air circulation around the pilot's head and to limit the pressure on the pilot's head in case of ejection by allowing air to flow through. The visor (sun shield) has three positions.
The ZSH-3 is never worn without the inner liner helmet. This can be one of three different types. Each of these leather helmets has a winter and summer version. One has a mesh variant for the summer, while the other two simply have a thinner leather with no fur. These leather helmets also give a much greater flexibility in fit for individual pilots.
Both helmets and mask are in lovely condition and would display very nicely together.
- Pair of Black Leather Boots: The boots have no legible markings nor size markings (not recommended for wear, display only) but appear to be Soviet in origin. They are in good condition with oxidation on the metal fittings.
- Uniform Set: The uniform set consists of blue flight pants and a tan top. Both items show signs of honest wear and use and do not have any significant damage present.
- Photograph: 11 ½” x 9 ½” black and white picture of a group of Vietnamese pilots planning an operation around a map. All pilots are wearing nearly identical examples of the items in this lot. Unfortunately the picture has been rolled up for many years and the thick paper is now cracked.
All items come more than ready for further research and display!
