This is an excellent New Old Stock unissued U.S. Navy WWII Emergency Fishing Kit No.5, used by serviceman, presumably after they had to abandon ship for some reason. In the sea, their only source of food would be rations on hand, and fish, so to survive an extended time at sea, fishing was the only option for food, as well as the water the fish contained. The kit is a new old stock OD Green HBT roll, containing various fishing hooks, lures, and lines, and a very small harpoon on a rope. There is also some dehydrated bait, as well as instructions on how to use the kit.
The case is marked faintly on the outside, with very basic information

The condition is near mint, having never been used and retaining its original color. The kit also includes the original knife, marked MADE IN USA on the blade and HOOK REMOVER on one end. The kit is complete and is in unissued condition, making this a very rare set.
This is a very interesting bit of WWII Survival gear, ready for further research and display!
