Original Item: From 1939 onward, the standard issue US Army soft cap was the garrison cap. Also known as overseas cap, pisscutter, or sidecap. Although there were variations in the lining styles, the pattern was consistent throughout WW2.? These are original WWII issue cotton garrison caps for wear with the summer service uniform- commonly known as "khakis". These garrison caps were all issued to infantry troops as evident by the blue piping.
Offered in very good condition, these will make an authentic affordable addition to any WWII collection.
Most are tagged "Combat Serviceable- Take Care of It and It Will Take Care of You".
Only very small sizes are available (which is exactly why they lasted in excellent condition for 65+ years).
Branch of Service Piping: Once a soldier was assigned to a unit, colored trim was usually sewn around the lip of the cap fold. Below are some of the lines and service and corresponding color:
Blue: Infantry (includes paratroops)
Red: Artillery
Green/White: Armor
Black/Orange: Tank Destroyer
Yellow/Blue: Air Corps
Red/Blue/White: 1st Special Service Force
Black/Gold: Officer
