Original Item: Only One Available. The sound emitters from this siren you will instantly recognize from all those WWII blitz movies some of us saw as children. This is the real thing. At the outbreak of the war in 1939 England was totally unprepared. This is an incredibly scarce siren which is still mounted on its original stand. These would come with the siren within the stand for storage purposes, with the siren being removed and placed on top of the stand when in use.
The siren measures roughly 33 x 19 x 15”, and can be unscrewed from the base to “compact” the set, although we have not attempted to unscrew or remove it. The siren still works as intended, requiring a few cranks to get it to the desired sound. The shutter on the side can be opened & closed for a softer or louder sound.
The stand is still in great shape without any serious dents or damage, and there is a tag under the handle which likely had the name of the original maker, but it’s been covered by paint. The last example like this we had was painted in the exact same color, so we assume this to be correct to the period. The arrow which tells the user which way to crank the handle indicates this as a British example.
Air Raid Sirens are difficult to find in any condition or variation, but this is one of incredible make & stature, one of the loudest designed for the war, requiring a full stand. These are incredibly difficult to find, so don’t miss out on this example.
