Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting Vietnam War M1 Helmet liner which has been affixed with a communications system, antenna, and headset, with a Colonel’s insignia to the front. The set was owned and used by Colonel Arthur Bergman of the U.S. Marine Corps, and the set comes with his Legion of Merit certificate as well as some other ephemera.
The helmet liner has a handle affixed to one side with a set of communication boards on the other side. One side of the helmet is stenciled MTACCS, and the other is stenciled LFICS. The back of the helmet is stenciled BIG ART, certainly meant to name the helmet to Arthur Bergman. The helmet doesn’t appear functional as far as communications go, but it’s a fantastic custom-built comms helmet and is scarce in its own right.
The included certificate is Bergman’s 2nd Legion of Merit which was awarded upon his retirement. There is an accompanying letter talking about Bergman’s time as Head of the Tactical Command and Control Systems Branch of the Marine Corps. Also included are his Certificate of Commendation, several photographs of Bergman throughout his time in the USMC, and a newspaper clipping about his retirement.
