Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. WWII U.S. Navy Flare/ Signal Pistol made by Signal Pyrotechnic Company or Sklar of Los Angeles, California during WWII. This is a very large flare gun intended to launch (approximately) 37mm flares. A chrome finish was usually added to inhibit rust aboard ship though it looks like this was never plated, this pistol measures 11"x8.5" with a 1.5" barrel opening.
This pistol is features a break-open operation. Embossed on both side of the crosshatch grip with all markings having been removed, more than likely done to be sold on the civilian market as a surplus item. The serial number is 1068. Excellent overall condition, in complete working order with firing pin still present.
These flare guns were made for commercial and military wartime use. Imagine being stranded in a life raft, after the sinking of your ship by a U-Boat, the most valuable item in your survival kit may have been this flare gun. The gun has certainly seen service and an interesting life; if it could only talk!
