Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great example of a German Pioneer assault pack, which was adopted by the German Army on March 27th, 1941. These pack assemblies consisted of a backpack hooked onto the standard belt support straps (Y straps) with two side pouches; to be worn in place of, or in addition to, ammunition pouches. This listing is for the central pack ONLY.

The purpose of the Pioniersturmgepäck was to allow Pioneer troops to carry additional equipment they may need in combat. For example, in each group of five pioneers, one would be assigned a Pioniersturmgepäck. Typical combat loads included two Nb. 39 smoke grenades, a demolition charge, Karabiner 98k clips, and or a mess kit.

The pack is a high rectangular pouch with the top flap being a special Mess Kit pouch with a strap and friction buckle for securing it down. The front of the backpack has two large side loading compartments intended for demolition charges, grenades etc. The Pack has D rings (4) sewn on the rear for suspension from supporting straps. There is an army number stamped on the bag’s interior, which is very faded and difficult to read. The metal hooks are labeled JDEHA. The construction is correct & the visible stitching is in good shape with no visible damage. The metal ends of the straps have an MSS stamp. The pack measures roughly 17x10” laid out.

The pack is in overall great shape and is ready for further research and display. A very rare part of a German Pioneer’s kit, very difficult to find on its own. Don’t miss it!
